1925 Kissel Gold Bug Speedster
Eight Cylinder
THIS CAR HAS BEEN SOLD
Without question one of the rarest American classics available on the market today. This car has been part of my personal collection since the early 1990’s and I have just recently (and very reluctantly, I may add) decided to offer it for sale.
This car is the legendary eight-cylinder model of which only approximately fifty were ever manufactured. It’s believed that there may possibly be only five eight-cylinder speedsters left in existence.
It’s true that Kissel built six-cylinder speedsters too. They built more of the sixes originally and a few more of those still exist today. Make no mistake about it; those are rare and desirable cars too. Kissels are so special that even the six-cylinders are recognized as full CCCA Classics where as many six-cylinder models from other great makes such as Packard are not. However, there are huge differenced between the six and eight cylinder models of these cars. There is greater size, more horsepower and more torque. In fact there is more of everything! A similar comparison might be between a Mercedes 190SL and a 300SL. Both sports cars built by the same company, however there is a world of difference between a four cylinder 190SL and a six cylinder 300SL in
every comparison, It’s the same thing with the Kissel, two cylinders makes a huge difference.
This car was formerly in the fabulous J.K. Lilly collection. It’s an older 1960’s restoration that still looks pretty good. Better yet, it runs and drives great. The car features a special factory ordered continental spare tire. This was done to accentuate the lines of the hood and cowl which sort of reminds you of the appearance of a 1920’s / early ‘30’s Bentley or sitting in the cockpit of a vintage WWI bi-plane.
The “Goldbug” speedster was the top of the Kissel line. These were expensive cars when new and favorite amount celebrities, the wealthy and Hollywood elite.
This car has fully documented history and is unquestionably a very unique opportunity to purchase one of the rarest and sportiest American classic cars from the roaring twenties.
