1949 Cadillac Sedanette
THIS CAR HAS BEEN SOLD
Now this should be a great opportunity and a great project for someone. As you probably already know, finding a good, solid un-restored sedenette is getting almost impossible to find. Well, you’ve just found one!
This car is part of a large and impressive Cadillac collection. The owner had intended to do a resto-rod project and spent years looking for an exceptionally solid car to start with. Finally, this California car was located and purchased. However, sometimes as we all know, plans can change. In this case, the owner decided to purchase a magnificent, fully restored to original specifications sedanette, rather then going the resto-rod route.
This car is still basically original so you can go either way with it; it’s your choice. As far as I can tell, it appears to be the original engine in the car but I haven’t checked the numbers on it. The car seems to start and run okay but you’ll have to prime the carburetor a little bit to get her to go. I haven’t driven the car yet but I’m told the hydromatic is working okay and the brakes too.
As the photos show, the car isn’t totally complete but it’s pretty close. I know it needs some things related to the front vent windows and the front & rear seat arm rests for sure. I know it needs some rear window crank handles, a couple of radio knobs, a spare tire and jack for the trunk too. There are some other items that are apparent in the photos that are missing too. However, in the scheme of things, none of these items pose any significant problems.
WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS THAT THE CAR APPEARS TO BE INCREDIBLY SOLID. Personally, I haven’t had it on a lift yet but I’ve looked under it quite a bit and I haven’t been able to see any rust yet. Nothing! Two people I know who have been under it while on a lift said that it’s in great shape. Pretty amazing for a fifty eight year old Caddy don’t you think? If you bought a rusty one (which is just about all you can find these days) you could probably spend twenty-grand in metal work just to make the car as solid as this one already is.
Please don’t think that you’ll be able to get away without restoring the car because that’s not the case. I think you’ll probably want to do everything, i.e. mechanicals, electrical, cosmetics, etc. It’s just that I can’t imagine your finding (in this day and age) a better car to start with then this one. If you’d settle for a four-door sedan, you might be able to find one comparable to this car and maybe for a little less money. However, if you want a sedanette or a convertible, I don’t think it’s going to happen. If your seriously looking for one of these and you let this one go, I think you’ll regret it.
Asking, $18,500.
