THIS CAR HAS BEEN SOLD
This one belongs to a friend who has owned this nice little car for approximately
seventeen years. Dan told me that he cant seem to find the time to drive the car
anymore and hes decided to sell it. He is an extremely busy man so he asked me to
handle the sale for him.
Probably the most important selling point on this car is the exceptional condition of
the body. Its one of the best Ive seen in a long time. The reason for this is
that according to the owner, this car came to Arizona sometime in 1957 or 58. To
find one of these cars that have spent most of its life here is really rare today. The
vast majority of the collectable Mercedes cars that were in Arizona originally have left
for eastern states or Europe.
I was told that this is a three owner car since new. When Dan purchased it, he was told
that the car had been in storage for over twenty years. At that time, it was still in the
possession of the original owner. He purchased the car from the second owner and started
some extensive restoration work (complete mechanical and cosmetics) shortly after
purchasing it. There is an extensive restoration file included with the car. Since then,
the owner has put approximately twenty-five thousand miles on this car. We have all the
receipts for maintenance too. Yes, Dan certainly has used it, but as we all know, the
cars that run the best are the ones that are frequently driven.
Today, this car is what I would call a very presentable, above average driver. This is
not a show car for national competition. I think that statement really sums this car up.
The car looks nice and its incredibly solid but you wont win any shows with
it. If you place a greater priority on the mechanical and structural integrity of the car,
rather then winning trophies, I think you might like this 190 SL very much.
This car is equipped with Weber carburetors and it runs great! However, if you prefer
the original set up, we have that too. This includes the original solex carbs, manifold
and air cleaner assembly.
The paint is good but certainly not show car paint. The same can be said for the
interior. Its certainly usable and very presentable driver quality but thats
about it. The radio is not original. The black canvas top is very usable but not new. The
top boot has shrunk and is too tight to snap. The car does not have the optional hardtop.
There is a small crack in the corner of the windshield.
Please note: the photos shown here were taken BEFORE some extensive engine
detail work was done. There was a considerable amount of additional work done on the
paint, interior and trunk compartment too. If you like the car in these photos, I think
youll like it even more now. There is a VAST improvement!
Dan has just decided to reduce the asking price by an additional five thousand dollars.
Personally, I think that the new asking price of twenty-four thousand, five hundred dollars to be a
very realistic one for a 190SL of this quality.
