1962 Mercedes Benz 190SL Roadster
THIS CAR HAS BEEN SOLD

I really like 190SL’s. I think they’re wonderful cars. They have great looks, they were built with great quality & workmanship and they’re great fun to drive. Personally, I’ve always thought these cars were very under-rated. Yes, I know it isn’t the automobile a 300SL is but it’s also about three hundred-fifty thousand dollars less money for a car in similar condition. So, if the money doesn’t mean anything to you, then that’s the car you should buy. However, if the money does mean something, then these are an excellent alternative.

I’ve never understood why these cars are less expensive then a Porsche 356. I’ve owned and driven a lot of both of them and I think these are twice the car. To me, this is one of the nicest little four cylinder sports cars ever built. However, the market is changing and 190SL’s are definitely going up dramatically in price. There have been a number of beautiful, fully restored 190SL’s that have been sold in the mid one hundred thousand dollar range. This is starting to level the playing field with the 356 speedsters.

The car looks as good in person as it does in these photos. The cosmetics are not the problem here. What I want you to be aware of is that the car has had some accident damage in its history. Likely, this damage occurred very early on in its life. THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE A SALVAGE TITLE. There are some replacement body panels on this car, which are original. Mercedes-Benz parts. However, these parts are not the original ones that came with this car when it was new. One thing I like though is that the panel fit and gaps are better then many of these cars that I’ve seen.

The second issue is that there is some rust underneath this car too. I’ve definitely seen MUCH worse but I want you to know it’s there.

Mechanically, the car seems to run pretty good. The oil pressure is reasonable and the idle speed is steady. This car has the very popular Webber carburetor conversion. Personally, I’m not the greatest fan of this set-up however, a lot of people like them. No, we don’t have the original solex’s, the original air intake horn or the air cleaner. We don’t have the original radio either. Keep in mind though that these items are readily available from a number of aftermarket suppliers who deal in used parts or on Internet auctions.

If you know me or have heard of my reputation then you know I really “call them as I see them”. Most sellers would definitely not point out these imperfections to you. This is the kind of car that has the right looks too possibly sell for a lot of money at an auction. It’s just that I don’t operate that way. I tell the truth about cars and that’s why I’ve got the reputation that I have. Again, most sellers would never tell you about the issues that I have explained here. If you can live with these issues or have the ability to improve the car, this could be a great opportunity for you.

The asking price is a very reasonable and firm $29,500.
