1980 Mercedes Benz Station Wagon
High Performance Chevy V-8 Powered
Personally, I think this is something that’s pretty special. All of the quality and workmanship of a Mercedes with the power of a Corvette.
This is a 100% rust-free Texas / Arizona car since new. It started out life as a sedate diesel wagon and then a well-known local Mercedes factory tech got a hold of it. Well, it seems he had this hot little fresh Chevy V-8 just sitting around and the rest, as they say, is history.
In went the Chevy engine coupled with a turbo four hundred automatic transmission in one of the most professional, clean installs I’ve ever seen on a hybrid of this type. Believe me, I’ve seen a lot of Chevy V-8 conversions and this one is really exceptional. So, please don’t confuse this car with some type of shade tree backyard hack job. This one was a 100% pro built car all the way. Some people who’ve seen it have suggested that this car could be a model for the potential business opportunity of converting other Mercedes cars over to American V-8 power. I’ve had two people who’ve asked if I would consider doing this conversion on their MB 450SL.
When I got the car in 2003, I did a lot of additional work to improve it, both mechanically and cosmetically. This, coupled with all of the previous work has turned this car into a beautiful example of American performance and reliability coupled with German craftsmanship.
How do you put a price on something like this? As I’m sure you can imagine, there is very little to go by. However, I think I’m correct in guessing that it would cost over thirty grand to build it, even if the core car was free.
So, I’ll be asking $25,000, which I think, is a very fair place to start.
